Cats comings and goings
Although there are a couple of homes in the pipeline, cat re-homing has once
again been slow. Unfortunately, as we have said so often in the past, there are just too many cats and not enough
good homes. This, coupled with our policy of not allowing our cats to be re-homed on busy or main roads, often
makes it difficult to find the exact homes we require for them. We were recently joined by Angie, a very affectionate
tabby and white female, approximately five months old, who was found wandering on
the main road near the kennels. Hopefully, Angie will soon find herself a new home.
Fundraising News
In April, the staff of Booth Ainsworth held a 'dressing down' day and raised £65 for Otterspool. On 5th April, a stall
at the Animal Fair 2008 at Woodbank Park raised £40 with an extra £20 being donated by the sponsors of the Fair,
Friends of Woodbank Park & Vernon Parks. Our thanks to the organizers for allowing us to take part in this event
and for their support. The following day, April 6th was our own Spring Fair at the Scout Hut which raised the fantastic
sum of £2,000. Following the Fair, on 27th April, we held our hugely successful Annual Sponsored Walk, raising
to date £3,702.84. We are still awaiting some outstanding sponsorship from one or two of our walkers, so can we
prompt those of you whose money we still have not received, so that we can achieve a final total. Thank you. Still in
April, on 30th £113.26 was raised from a Quiz Nite at The Ring O'Bells, Marple, with a further £126.50 the following
week on 7th May. Our sincere thanks once again to Peter, Sue, staff and customers at the 'Ringers' for their continued
support. Following the earlier story of the eleven kittens, a fund-raising drive by one of our supporters Anne
Ashcroft raised over £500 for the kittens. Also in May Diane Evans donated her sponsorship money of £50 to Otterspool,
from the Manchester Run. In the same month, Pro-Manchester Limited, raised £2,596.50 for us at their annual
Charity Dinner. A special 'thank you' to John Arnold and colleagues for this magnificent donation. On 14th June
we had fund-raising stalls at the Woodford Dog Show held at Woodford Civic Centre, where £621.00 was raised,
with an additional £200 donated by the organisers. On 21st June, another of our supporters, Jane Waterfield organized
a Dog Show at Marple Carnival which raised £105, and also in June a further £53 was donated by The Ring
O'Bells, Marple. Rounding off June, £87.60 was donated by Booth Ainsworth for once again organising a
'dressing-down' day. Thanks to all at Booth Ainsworth who took part in these two events. On 5th & 6th July, fundraising
stalls at a (rather wet) two-day Dog Show at Brabyns Park hosted by Chadkirk Dog Training Club, raised
£257.60 of which £88.60 was raised by Kay, Elaine and Barry who so kindly gave up their time to organize a tombola
for Otterspool. Our appreciation goes once again to Chadkirk Dog Training Club for their continued support
and for allowing our Charity to have a presence at their events. On 2nd August at the Cats Protection Fun Day at
Torkington Park, our fund-raising stalls made £94 for Otterspool, whilst on the following day, a further £40 was raised
from our pet stalls at a dog show at Woodford Civic Centre, organised by Urmston & Flixton Dog Training Club.
